“Be A Leader, Now”, Oxford-based Prof Urges Young Emiratis
An Oxford-based professor has urged young Emiratis that if they want to be leaders in their chosen career sector, they must become leaders now. And he also advises all UAE employers to start taking immediate and practical action to develop Emirati leaders as early as possible.
Professor William Scott-Jackson of Oxford Strategic Consulting will show that the UAE has huge potential to develop global leadership skills in its young people, at this weekend’s UK/UAE Pioneers Forum. But in order to harness this potential, young people themselves must take every opportunity to lead at all ages, practising their leadership skills as early as they possibly can.
New research from Oxford Strategic Consulting, sponsored by energy company BP, shows that the UAE needs at least 64 per cent of Emiratis to become leaders quickly. Now the Professor will give practical, high value advice to young Emiratis on how to become a leader in the UAE at this weekend’s conference.
He will also show employers how to truly engage and inspire young people to become leaders in education and at work in the private and public sectors.
The professor says: “Given the demographics, any young Emirati that can be a leader MUST be a leader. No other country in the world has the opportunity and challenge to develop such a high proportion of its young people into truly demanding and inspiring leadership roles. No other country has such a strong vision from its leaders and no other country has such unique motivations and aspirations in its young people. These unique advantages can be used to build a sustainable social and economic powerhouse, led by nationals.
“But it has to start now and it has to be done well. Our research and advisory work across the GCC tells us how this can be achieved and I’ll be sharing the key points in the presentation on Sunday.”
Professor William Scott-Jackson will lead a presentation called “Becoming a leader in the UAE” at the UK/UAE Pioneers Forum at Victoria House, Bloomsbury, London on 19th January 2014. Initiated by the United Arab Emirates Embassy in London, the UAE – UK Pioneers Forum has been created to give Emirati and UK students a chance to interact with business leaders from both the UAE and the UK to showcase the career opportunities available to them within the UAE.
