GCC Nationals not after ‘status’ or an ‘easy life’
GCC nationals ranked ‘status’ and ‘easy life’ among the least influential factors that motivate them in life, found OSC’s latest survey. These survey findings challenge widespread employer stereotypes about GCC nationals, such as an obsession with status and a tendency to opt for low-pressure, public sector employment. In these findings, ‘status’ ranked the least influential motivator for nationals (at 2%), and only 6% of nationals mentioned an ‘easy life’ as an important motivator. Family proved the most influential motivator for both GCC nationals and expats. Read More..
BP and OSC boost private sector employment
OSC’s innovative ‘Maximising Emirati Talent’ report, commissioned by BP, is making waves across the region by demonstrating how GCC companies can both bridge the skills gap and increase the local workforce. Following a widely successful research launch in Abu Dhabi with the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, OSC heads next to Oman for the launch of our ‘Maximising Omani Talent’ research report. Learn more in a recent article published in the National, where Professor William Scott-Jackson and Robert Mogielnicki discuss what oil & gas companies in the region should be doing to attract, develop and retain the best local talent. 75% of employees not committed to their work
Less than 25% of employees worldwide are actively engaged in their organisations, and annual surveys and assessments fail to accurately measure engagement levels. Fortunately, newer technological approaches to gauge and improve engagement in real-time offer more hope. We are developing a smart-phone app to actively help first-line leaders to carry out distinct leadership tasks, rather than waiting for a learning course or being given huge amounts of information. The app reports on engagement and productivity levels in real-time, so leaders can respond effectively as needed. Finally, the app provides science-based help to increase employees’ propensity for enthusiasm and positivism on a day-to-day basis.
Motivating Managers: A Toolkit by Debbie Whitaker
While the very best managers have ‘hard wired’ talents that make them naturally suited to the role, other managers find it more of a struggle to get the best out of people. But all is not lost. The ‘not so great’ managers can get better. There are a number of behaviours that people can learn and practice to help them be better managers. OSC’s engagement expert, Debbie Whitaker, explains what immediate steps managers can take to increase employee engagement and unlock better business results. Read Debbie’s ‘Motivating Managers’ Toolkit.
