Oman Observer Interviews Prof William on Omanization
The Oman Observer, one of the leading English-language publications in the Middle East, has interviewed Professor William Scott-Jackson about what is needed to boost Omanization strategies, following Oxford Strategic Consulting’s latest research report into boosting Omani and Emirati Engineering Talent, sponsored by energy company BP.
The page 4 article states that Professor Scott-Jackson’s work with British Petroleum has seen him interview over 500 young Omanis, employers and educationalists, looking specifically at ‘maximizing Omani engineering talent.’
Professor William says: “As with all the Gulf states, the private sector is on the one hand competing for talent with the public sector and on the other is expected to employ nationals even where the pure economics might not add up, for example, comparing national versus expatriate wages. Nevertheless, our advice to (GCC) governments is to come up with business-based reasons for companies to employ nationals, not just rely on quotas or goodwill.”
